The Partnership was formed in 2000 to make early stage investments in technology companies. The Partnership invests between $500,000 and $2,500,000 in companies focused in three broad sectors of the technology arena; media and communications, software applications and outsourced business services. Each of the Principals at 5280 Partners has more than 20 years experience in financing, operating and successfully exiting business ventures. Most recently, the Principals operated a cable television company serving 560,000 customers and generating $270 million in annual revenues. This enterprise was sold to Charter Communications in late 1999, generating a net internal rate of return of greater than 40% for investors. The Partnership is focused on making investments in companies where the Principals' unique operational, financial and technical expertise can make a significant contribution to organizational success. 5280 Partners' involvement with its portfolio companies typically starts with Board representation, but it ultimately goes far beyond that. The Partnership seeks investments in companies which will benefit from active, on-going involvement by the Principals. Operational excellence is at the core of the Partnership philosophy and helping portfolio companies achieve this goal is a key benefit of a relationship with 5280 Partners. Principals: Brief biographies of the Principals are outlined below: Kevin B. Allen Mr. Allen brings a wealth of both operational and financial experience to the Partnership. Prior to forming 5280 Partners, he served as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Rifkin & Associates, Inc., a privately held owner and operator of US-based cable television systems. During his tenure, the Company raised nearly $600 million of debt and equity capital and completed ten separate transactions, adding 250,000 customers to the operation. Prior to joining Rifkin & Associates, Mr. Allen worked for eight years as a corporate investment banker for BT Securities Corporation and Prudential-Bache Capital Funding. Mr. Allen received an MBA from the Wharton School, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado. Jeffrey D. Bennis Mr. Bennis brings many years of operational and marketing experience to 5280 Partners. Prior to forming the Partnership, Mr. Bennis served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Rifkin & Associates, Inc. Prior to this role, he served as the Company's Vice President of Marketing/Programming. Before coming to Rifkin & Associates, Mr. Bennis worked at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company for eleven years in various operational and marketing roles. Mr. Bennis has an MBA from the University of Connecticut and a BS in Business Logistics from Penn State University. Peter N. Smith Mr. Smith brings over thirty years of communications technology expertise to the Partnership. Prior to forming 5280 Partners, Mr. Smith served as Senior Vice-President, Engineering and Advanced Technology for Rifkin & Associates, Inc. Prior to joining Rifkin & Associates, Mr. Smith was Vice-President, Engineering for American Television & Communications Corporation, where he oversaw the construction of many of the largest metropolitan cable systems in the United States. Mr. Smith received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Franklin University. Portfolio Companies: The Partnership's current portfolio consists of five companies, all located in the Western United States: CustomerLink Systems, Inc. - A California-based company that delivers automated customer retention and loyalty programs to the automotive service and repair industry. AGEA Corporation - A Texas-based company that provides wireless integration solutions to Global 2000 enterprises. Authentor Systems, Inc. - A Colorado-based company that provides next- generation user authentification and authorization software and services to enterprises. MindArrow Systems, Inc. - A California-based company that provides software and services to allow customers to create, deliver and track rich media and other digital communications over the internet.
