Roser Ventures manages venture partnerships that invest in private offerings of companies that exhibit the potential for superior long-term returns. Established in 1987, Roser Ventures now manages $74 million of venture capital. The investment approach is focused on early-stage companies and is diversified, but is concentrated in several industry clusters- internet services, network hardware, software, semiconductor equipment/manufacturing, and medical devices. Geographically, investments are primarily in the Rocky Mountain Region, although some are made in other parts of the United States when they fit strategically into the portfolio. The firm's investment philosophy emphasizes people.Other important investment considerations are market opportunity,risk, competitive landscape, liquidity potential, and portfolio strategic fit. Typical investment size preference is from $250,000 to $3,500,000.

Principals:

The General Partner is Roser Ventures, LLC. Owners and managers of the General Partner are James L.D. Roser, Christopher W. Roser, Al Valenti, and other support staff.

Each of the managers of the general partner has extensive experience in corporate finance and venture capital. They have accumulated over fifty years of venture experience in addition to more than thirty years in corporate finance with New York investment banking houses. Each principal has graduate business education and extensive investment management experience.




James L.D. Roser received a bachelor's degree in economics from Bucknell University and an MBA from Harvard University. His early career was in investment banking and portfolio management in New York City from 1952 to 1973. He was a member of the investment-banking department at Smith, Barney & Co. from 1952 to 1962. In 1962 he transferred to Brown Brothers Harriman where he managed private funds. From 1967 to 1973 he was the partner in charge of the investment management department of Cyrus J. Lawrence & Co. Mr. Roser has lived in Boulder, Colorado since 1978, where he has actively participated in small business investments. Joined by his son, Christopher, in 1987, they formed The Roser Partnership, Ltd., a $1.7 million venture partnership, in 1993 they formed The Roser Partnership II, Ltd. with $6.5 million,in 1997 they formed The Roser Partnership III, Ltd. with $20.7 million and The Roser Partnership III SBIC in 1999 with $52 million.

Mr. Roser participated in the early stage financing of National Semiconductor Corporation in 1959 (NSM - NYSE), Safecard Services in 1969 (acquired in 1996 by CUC International (CU - NYSE)), and Griffin Technology in 1971 (acquired by Diebold Inc (DBD-NYSE)).



Christopher W. Roser graduated from the University of Colorado in 1981 with a BA in Economics. He received an MBA in Finance from New York University’s Graduate School of Business Administration in 1984. He was employed with Main Hurdman KMG from 1982 to 1984 as a staff public accountant providing auditing and consulting services for small businesses. Mr. Roser worked as a securities analyst in emerging growth stocks from 1985-1986 for Equity Research Associates, a subsidiary of Ladenburg, Thalmann & Co., a Member of the New York Stock Exchange. From 1986 to 1987, Chris was an associate with Ladenburg in the corporate finance department. Since 1987 Mr. Roser has been a principal of the general partner of The Roser Partnership, Ltd., The Roser Partnership II, Ltd., The Roser Partnership III, Ltd and the Roser Partnership III SBIC.

Mr. Roser participated in the early stage financing of Carrier Access Corporation in 1996, (CACS - OTC), Hauser Inc. in 1988, (HAUS - OTC), Confertech International in 1989, recently acquired by Frontier Corp., (FRO - NYSE), and Advanced Forming Technology in 1988, since purchased by Precision Castparts Corp., (PCP - NYSE). He serves on the board of five portfolio companies



Alan T. Valenti received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. John’s University and an MBA in Management and Finance from Rutgers University. He was a Senior Manager with Ernst & Young in New York and New Jersey, providing audit and consulting services to public and privately held clients, from 1975 to 1985. Mr. Valenti served as Director of Audit Services for C.R. Bard, Inc. from 1985 to 1988. In 1989 he became controller for a medical device subsidiary of C.R. Bard, Inc. From 1991 to 1993, he was Corporate Controller for publicly held Titanium Metals Corporation. And from 1993 to 1999, Mr. Valenti held senior financial positions with Gallagher Enterprises LLC, a $500 million investment holding company, including corporate controller of its largest holding, Applied Industrial Materials Corporation. Most recently, he was Vice President-Finance of Gallagher Enterprises LLC. In March 1999, "Al" was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Roser Ventures LLC.

Mr. Valenti has extensive experience in all areas of financial and administrative management. Additionally, he has held leadership positions with the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute and the Colorado Society of CPA’s.
